I have hated Jerry Jones since the day he fired Tom Landry as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I understood the move and it worked out great for Jerry. Jimmy Johnson providing 2 Super Bowl rings as coach and a third Super Bowl ring that Barry Switzer won as head coach on auto pilot with Jimmy's players . I had been a life long Cowboy fan because of Roger Staubach and Tom Landry. Landry deserved better. He should have been allowed to leave on his on terms or at least given a small window of opportunity to do that. Jerry was and is all about money and making money. If any thing in life is true, it is the fact that the LOVE - not money but the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Well, Jerry Jones' love of money is going to jeopardize the future well being of the NFL.
The NFL is so much better than the other pro sports and college sports because of the parity - it is easy for teams to be as good as other teams (unless your a Lions or Raiders fan). The system is set up to make teams very equal and any team can win in any given year (again see reference above to Lions and Raiders). The dollars do not get in the way of the league being competitive.
Unlike other sports, the NFL has revenue sharing. In other words, all of the money made by all of the teams is put into 1 pot and equally divided among the 32 teams. This allows smaller cities such as Pittsburgh and Green Bay to compete with the bigger cities such as New York, New England (Boston), and Dallas. The salary cap with this revenue sharing helps keep the playing field even.
Pay attention to media reports and you will hear about the statement Jerry made this past Friday night. Filthy rich Jerry Jones is sick of making money to help teams that aren't making as much money. His statement made reference to the fact that revenue sharing must end and will end. I suppose Jerry wants to have the most expensive stadium, which he now does, the most expensive team so he can win the most championships which will allow him to make the most money.
People, if you love the competition of the NFL then you will hope that Jerry Jones does not get revenue sharing ended. It is bad enough that if a new labor agreement between the players union and owners doesn't get worked out the salary cap could be gone next season. Teams could spend as much or as little as the owner wants, which would give us major league baseball. A few teams are very good because they buy all of the best players and the other teams just aren't good enough because they don't have enough money to spend on players. BORING!
I greatly appreciate people who are about winning at what they love to do. Especially in a team oriented event. People who are great and make their peers or teammates rise to a higher level of performance. Money can be a motivating factor as we all like to have a lot, but I am talking about people who play for the trophy. Jerry Jones doesn't care about the well being of the entire NFL, just the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones plays for the trophy but only because the trophy brings more money. In reality, he is playing just for the money. Don't be fooled by Jerry Jones' expensive suits, hair weaves, or face lifts. Jerry Jones in the long run is pure evil for the NFL.
